Life coaching is action oriented and forward focused.
The sky is the limit! Coaches and clients work together to advance careers, health, finances, social life, family, spousal relationships, recreation, and personal growth.
Probably the biggest difference between coaching and counseling is that coaching clients decide where they want to go with their coach. The coach sets a structure of support and accountability to move forward.
Most of coaching is done over the phone. Depending on geography and client preference, some can be done face to face. Phone contact saves travel time and enables coaches and clients to connect from different parts of the world.
When is the last time you can remember taking time out to REALLY ask yourself what you want in life? I mean REALLY ask on the deepest level! A coach not only guides you through this process, but assists you in claiming the life you want. The sky is the limit! We possess so much more power, talent and genius than we give ourselves credit for. The coaching experience is one of exploration and unlocking of human potential. It is action oriented and about getting results. Here are some examples of areas addressed in coaching:
For guidance through life transitions (in between jobs, pre or post surgery, relocation, letting go of old relationships or stepping into new ones, etc.).
To improve or maintain physical health including weight management.
To improve relationships with spouse and enrich family life.
To explore career options, manage finances, and increase earning potential.
To make friends and develop new social networks.
To explore spirituality, personal growth and continuing education.
To eliminate stress and achieve life balance.
This process occurs up front and can take up to two hours.
Coach and client design an alliance in which they work together to identify values and dreams.
Coach and client work together in goal setting process (long and short term).
The coach provides a structure of support and accountability for the client. This often involves homework in between calls.
Fees and schedules are set. Most coaching is done over the phone. Geography permitting, meetings can be face to face.
Coach and client make commitment to honor the relationship and process.
Coach and client regularly monitor progress and redesign their working alliance as needed.
Ask about experience and credentials.
Look for a coach who has expertise in areas that are of benefit to you.
Ask for a free half-hour sample session to see if a coach is a fit for you.
